A grove of local species intermingles with anarchy, hiding within a 1960s house suffering from years of neglect. Vegetation and the elements have taken over, and the volumes of this house from another era are no longer in tune with modern tastes despite positive attributes: its favorable southern orientation filtered by tall resinous treetops, its architectural originality inspired by the Bordeaux school, and the thoughtful integration in its environment.

The design is inspired by luminous aesthetics and clean lines characteristic of Californian architecture. The house is positioned at the northern edge, backed by a dune slope, to free up as much of the plot as possible for a generously sunlit garden. This garden is organized around a large concrete wall that splits the long volume and divides the exterior into a reception area around the pool and a more intimate space in front of the bedrooms. The use of raw materials such as wood (Douglas fir), with its evolving colors, and concrete allows the structure to subtly blend into the landscape. A few sections are coated in a sandy tone to anchor this monolith in its environment. The large glass windows facilitate a fluid interaction between the interior and exterior spaces, capturing natural light and offering panoramic views of the extensively landscaped surroundings. The project places paramount importance on sustainability with simple and efficient volumetric design that hugs the sandy terrain aims for long-term structural stability. Rainwater management is integrated into the thickness of the roof to reduce the height of the house. The landscaped garden is designed with native plant species to preserve local biodiversity and create a habitat for wildlife.
